Frugal Happenings

* Sold two books on Amazon for $60!  The bulk of the $60 was from an old textbook- usually these are worth $2 at best so I was surprised that it had retained its value.

* Made a batch of homemade laundry detergent. Accidentally grated my thumb as well as the bar of soap.  Oops!

* Received checks from my side gig, a Upromise rebate, and a reimbursement from my flexible spending account.  Deposited all into my savings account.

* Dyed my hair, bleached my teeth, and freshened up my pedicure at home.

* I did go get my hair cut by a professional, but I go to a salon in my home town that charges low prices whenever I happen to be in the area.  With a big tip, my total was $22 and my hair looks SO much better.  My hair is long right now, which I guess is more frugal in that I need fewer haircuts.

* I needed printer ink, so I took the ink cartridges I have been saving to Staples to recycle at the same time (thanks to my family for giving me their spent cartridges!!).  I also bought some free after rebate ink pens- I never pay for pens or computer paper since they are frequently available free after coupons or rebate.  I will get reimbursed for the pens and will get a $20 Staples reward from the cartridges.

* I've been using the free My Fitness Pal app on my phone to log calorie intake.  I'm down six pounds so far.

* I've been exercising at home and outside, so no cost there.  Although if a gym membership motivates someone to exercise I do think it would be worth the cost.

* Went to Walgreens during an errand run on a hunt for a product that was out of stock.  Decided to make the most of the trip and bought a Lindt Excellence Dark Chocolate Bar (caramel with a touch of sea salt).  It is SO good (yes, I budget calories for dessert!).  I only paid .13 because I had a $3 reward available.

* Received .65 cash back on my gas purchase from playing a "game" that took all of thirty seconds on my phone.

*Batched errands so that I wasted less gasoline.

* Continued to work on reducing food waste.  I am also going to try to eat from the pantry this week.

What have you been up to?

You are a great example in your steady daily efforts to be frugal. I relisted some things on eBay and sold several. One was a commemorative locale plate that got no bids the first time out but went for $31+ yesterday. I re-used packaging a book came to me in to wrap one to go out today; got samples of eye drops at the ophthalmologist for cataract surgery tomorrow;listed cheap paperbacks on Book Mooch after reading them and made a peach-raspberry crisp before those went bad. Today I will go to the post office and stop at the thrift shop next to a dollar store for bubble wrap and possible items to resell before going to the library to pick up a book I want to read obtained through ILL.

You are GOOD! Haircuts are SO EXPENSIVE! My trim was $35 before tip. She does give a great head massage though.

Thanks, Danavee!! :) $35 for a cut in this area is pretty darn good, too!
Michele, thank you so much! And wonderful job on your frugal efforts! I hope your cataract surgery went well. :)
